Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist who led the expansion of the American steel industry in the late 19th century. Born into poverty, he built Carnegie Steel Company, which he sold to J.P. Morgan in 1901 for ?80 million, forming U.S. Steel. He became one of the wealthiest people in history and later gave away most of his fortune to charitable causes.
